Flash Card 19

Pseudomonas develops quickly during our winter months when conditions are cooler and wet. On Arboricola, symptoms begin as small, water-soaked, black spots which rapidly enlarge and may encompass the entire leaflet. Leaf drop is commonly observed.

Alternaria leaf spot is the most serious and common disease of Schefflera, especially when plants are exposed to rainfall or overhead irrigation. Spots from pinpoints to 2 inches or more are generally dark brown to black with tan centers and often are surrounded by a yellow halo.

Flash Card 20

Both of the diseases shown on this Areca palm are caused by Helminthosporium. Leaf spots may occur on any leaf, appearing as elliptical reddish-brown areas, often with a yellow halo. In severe infections the leaf may be covered by numerous spots which coalesce to form irregularly shaped areas. Depending on environmental conditions and disease severity, the tips of leaflets may remain intact or shredded.
